Test Apple MacBook Pro 13 Early 2011 (2.3 GHz Dual-Core, glare)

Gespannt haben die Apple-Fans auf die aktuelle Revision des „(Dell Inspiron 1720 Battery ) kleinen“ MacBook Pro gewartet, wurden doch bis vor kurzem noch Prozessoren, der inzwischen antiquierten Core 2 Duo Serie verbaut. Zugunsten der Nvidia GeForce 320M hat man Mitte 2010 auf den Umstieg auf Core i5 & Co verzichtet, da die damit verbundene Intel HD Grafik-Lösung nicht Apples Vorstellungen entsprochen hat. (Battery Dell Inspiron 1520 ) Grafikleistung statt Prozessorleistung war damals der passende Titel unseres Testberichts. Nun hat man den Schritt hin zur Intel Lösung gewagt, da zum einen die Leistungsfähigkeit der nun verbesserten Intel HD Graphics 3000 dem Leistungsanspruch deutlich näher kommen soll und zum anderen ein Wechsel zur aktuellen Prozessorgeneration nicht mehr hätte glaubhaft ausgeschlagen werden können. Ausgestattet ist unsere Basisversion des MBP 13 mit Intel Core i5-2415 CPU, Intel HD Graphics 3000, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB Festplatte und der brandaktuellen Thunderbolt-Schnittstelle. Die Preise beginnen im Apple Store bei 1150,- Euro, bei anderen Händlern findet man Angebote ab unter 1100,- Euro.

Ohne Fehl und Tadel ist auch das Gehäuse des hier getesteten MacBook Pro 13. Verarbeitungsmängel, Passungenauigkeiten oder Materialfehler sind nicht zu finden. Die Stabilität ist sehr hoch, das Displayscharnier hält vorbildlich. (HP Compaq 8510w battery ) Wie auch bei den anderen Modellen sind zwar die Gehäusekanten stellenweise etwas scharfkantig, wirklich beeinträchtigend ist dieser Umstand aber nicht.

Die Anschlussausstattung ist identisch zum getesteten Modell mit 2,7 GHz CPU. Ergänzend zu den hier nachzulesenden Eigenschaften, ist noch erwähnenswert, dass sich Speicherkarten nicht komplett versenken lassen, ( Dell Inspiron 1525 Battery ) sondern circa 1cm aus dem Speicherkartenleser herausstehen.

Hier ist die Performance unter Mac OS X teilweise deutlich besser als im Zusammenspiel mit Windows 7.( Dell Inspiron 6400 Battery ) Insbesondere Firewire 800 kann mit 80 MB/s spürbar schneller Daten schaufeln, als dies mit Windows 7 möglich ist (60 MB/s). Unverändert zu den bereits getesteten MacBook Pro Modellen zeigen sich auch die Eingabegeräte. Tastatur und Touchpad sind von gewohnt sehr guter Qualität. Lediglich Windows-Umsteiger müssen etwas Umgewöhnungszeit in Kauf nehmen, ( Latitude D620 Battery ) da viele Funktionen auf anderen Wegen als sonst üblich erreicht werden müssen. Wie alle aktualisierten (dell vostro 1400 battery ) MacBook Pro kommt auch im kleinen 13er Intels aktuelle Sandy Bridge Chipsatzgeneration zum Zuge. Als CPU bekommt man von Apple einen Intel Core i5-2415 Prozessor geliefert, der baugleich mit dem Core i5-2410 ist, aber über ein kleineres Packaging verfügt und somit für die Verwendung in leichten und schlanken Notebooks hinsichtlich der Bauhöhe optimiert wurde. Zu den technischen Highlights gehören Hyperthreading (maximal 4 Threads können gleichzeitig abgearbeitet werden), Turbo Boost 2.0 (dynamische Anpassung der Taktrate auf bis zu 2,9 GHz) und der im Prozessorgehäuse integrierte Grafikchip Intel HD Graphics 3000. Ebenfalls im CPU-Gehäuse untergebracht ist der Speichercontroller, der bis zu 8 GB DDR3-1333 Arbeitsspeicher bedienen kann. Unser Testmodell verfügt über 4 GB DDR3 RAM, welcher auf zwei Slots zu je 2 GB verteilt ist.

Systeminformationen Apple Macbook Pro 13 inch 2011-02 MC700D/A Die Leistungsfähigkeit der CPU ist im Vergleich zu den 2010er Vorgängermodellen mit Core 2 Duo Prozessoren spürbar angestiegen. Die SuperPi 32m Berechnung benötigt nun nur noch 735s im Vergleich zu 1160s vergleichbarer Core 2 Duo P8600 CPUs. wPrime 1024 verbessert sich von 1100s auf 632s. Der Cinebench R11.5 verbessert sich unter Mac OS X in der CPU Wertung von 1.36 Punkten auf 2.59 Punkte und im Xbench 1.3 wird die CPU Teilwertung von 169 auf 231 Punkte gesteigert. Das sind Leistungssteigerungen von 36% - 72% je nach Benchmark. Der Turbo Boost funktionierte im Test und erreichte beim CB R10 Single 2,7 GHz und bei der SuperPi Berechnung kurzzeitig auch 2,9 GHz.

Veränderung zum 2010er MBP 13 2,4 GHz DPC Latency Checker Mit dem DPC Latency-Checker erhalten wir ein sehr ähnliches Bild zum MBP 17.(battery VGP-BPS9/B ) Lediglich vereinzelt auftretende Ausschläge im gelben Bereich sollten zu keinen Synchronisationsfehlern bei externen Geräten führen.

xBench 1.3 im VergleichDie Bewertung der Grafikleistung fällt hingegen ernüchternd aus.(VGP-BPS13B/B battery ) Nvidias GeForce 320M hat im Vorgängermodell 12.61 Bps beim Cinebench R11.5 OpenGL Test geschafft. Die nun vorhandene Intel HD Graphics 3000 schafft dieses Ergebnis nicht, sondern bleibt bei 10.94 Bps stehen. Noch deutlicher wird der Unterschied beim 3D Mark `06 Benchmark, wo die aktuelle Revision mit 2550 Punkten zu 4707 Punkten bei einer Auflösung von 1280x800 Bildpunkten unterliegt. Hier hat man also mit Leistungseinbußen von 13 – 46% je nach Aufgabe zu rechnen.

Zusammenfassend erkauft man sich beim aktuellen Einsteiger MacBook Pro 13 die deutlich gesteigerte Prozessorleistung mit einem Rückschritt im Grafikbereich. Die bisher verwendete Nvidia Geforce 320M konnte hier mehr überzeugen. (Battery Sony VGP-BPS13/B ) Wie relevant sich die verminderte 3D Leistung in der Praxis auswirkt, ist jedoch fraglich und hängt von den individuellen Bedürfnissen ab. Aufgaben wie Animationsprogramme war auch die Geforce 320M kaum geeignet. FullHD Videos wiederum kann auch die integrierte Intel Grafik problemlos stemmen.

Leaving the recent defective Sandy bridge issues behind, Intel is reportedly nearing shipping of the new generation Sandy bridges that are supposed to utilize significantly lower voltage than their larger counterparts. The first of these processors should be the Core i7 2657M, that runs on a clock speed of only 1.6GHz but can achieve up to 2.7GHz (2.4 GHz with both cores loaded) thanks to the Turbo boost technology. It also has the ability to handle 4 threads due to hyper-threading support.(Dell Inspiron 1720 Battery )

This, along with the somewhat slower 1.4GHz Core i5 2537M should start shipping in the spring of this year, and in all possibilities, Intel might target this year’s Computex happening at Taipei from May 31st. The Sandy Bridge processors use a 32nm manufacturing process, and include the processor, memory controller and graphics on a single die. This will allow the integrated Intel HD graphics 3000 to run up to a maximum of 1000MHz with Turbo boost.(

Consumer Reports award best tablet crown to iPad 2

Even with the growing number of tablet manufacturers this year, none are apparently putting up as good of a fight so far compared to Apple’s latest iPad according to a recent review from Consumer Reports.

The well-respected monthly American magazine has tested and ranked currently available tablets on 17 different criteria, and the iPad 2 was the clear winner. “Apple is leading the tablet market in both quality and price, which is unusual for a company whose products are usually premium-priced,” said Consumer Reports editor Paul Reynolds. This claim indicates a very important position that Apple holds in the tablet market, as the iPad 2 can be bought brand new and contract-free for under $500, much lower than many other high-end tablets. This low price has also recently intimidated Samsung and its upcoming 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab. In addition, its graphics performance is unmatched when compared to tablets with Nvidia’s Tegra 2 APU. Ranked at second place was none other than the Motorola Xoom, which was praised for its built-in memory card reader and Adobe Flash support. Perhaps more surprising, however, was that the Xoom tied second with the original iPad. By the end of the year, this list could be revised as other major companies begin to show what they have to offer. Dell is about to add a new addition to its line of Streak tablets for a fall release.

First mentioned in a briefing back in February, the 10-inch Windows 7 tablet should be appearing sometime this September at the earliest, according to sources from Forbes. The upcoming tablet would be Dell’s first 10-inch tablet, as the company currently only offers 5-inch and 7-inch variants of its Streak tablet.(dell vostro 1400 battery)

Judging from the leaked Dell roadmap last month, the 10-inch Windows 7 tablet would be releasing quite closely to the possible Windows 8 tablet that is reportedly scheduled for Q1 2012. But since other companies such as HP and Asus have already released Windows 7 tablets, Dell may be deciding to introduce a Windows 7 tablet of its own as well. Current Streak models ship only with Android OS, so the new 10-inch tablet this fall would be Dell’s first to run Windows.(VGP-BPS13AS)

Forbes was also tipped with another 10-inch tablet coming from Dell for the summer, this time expected to run Android if released. Whether or not the tablet would be part of the Streak lineup is currently unknown, as the source claims the tablet is considered “unbranded” for now.(VGP-BPS13/S)
